At the COATINGS 2026 conference, SAFARI project partner Creative Nano, represented by Alexander Felix Tiniakos, presented groundbreaking research on the Layer-by-Layer (LbL) deposition of MXene–reduced graphene oxide (rGO) hybrids, alongside their detailed electrochemical evaluation.
The core of this innovation lies in the strategic combination of functionalized or pristine $Ti_3C_2T_x$ MXenes with graphene oxide (GO). By utilizing the LbL technique, researchers can achieve exceptionally precise control over the electrode architecture and its surface properties. This structural precision is a critical determining factor in maximizing the efficiency and accuracy of high-performance electrochemical sensing.
This research marks a significant step forward for the SAFARI project’s ongoing development of advanced biosensing platforms. In the realm of medical and environmental diagnostics, properties such as sensitivity, long-term stability, and reproducibility are paramount, and these hybrid materials demonstrate excellent potential in meeting those rigorous standards.
Crucially, the development of these materials aligns with modern environmental and safety priorities. The research is conducted entirely within a Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) framework. This ensures that the pursuit of high technological performance does not come at the expense of safety, keeping environmental considerations at the forefront of material innovation from the very beginning.
